So glad to hear articles like this are still being printed. We had a programme on here in Scotland with regards to the cover up of child abuse within the congregation about a year ago. The one thing that my mum, who is still a witness, questioned when she saw the programme was why the bethel lawyers did not give a statement as to whether a list of suspected or confirmed paedophiles existed or not, and to give a statement of their child protection policies. She knew enough about bethel and the society to know that they have first-rate lawyers who could have dealt with this situation had no list existed. The fact that they have pussy footed around it makes it so obvious that they have a list that they are just unwilling to hand over.

When will the egotistical people who run this organisation realise that they must allow the proper authorities do their job in brining these sick people to justice. It is time they handed over the list of paedophiles they so obviously have!

i just wanted to introduce myself and tell everyone that i have enjoyed many of the posts.

i wish that this resource was available 7 years ago when i walked away from the organization, it would have helped my transition a great deal.

i also wanted to say that it is enjoyable to come to a forum that is not on an angry rant about the organization on a constant basis.

i pertain to a congregation in the orange county.

from the ages of around 5-16 i went to all the meetings etc etc.

i am currently 18 years of age, although i am not the ''ideal'' christain boy, i have strong faith in jehova.

I am sorry to be so blunt Kozmik - but grow up!

If you have proper defences to some of the teachings or practices more than happy to discuss them but if you just have blind faith then go get the cataracts removed then come back to discus the issues.

i don't think i've made any apology for my leanings here towards jws, whilst i don't imagine most here will agree with me, i just think its good sometimes to redress the balance on this forum in a small way to let people who might be reading/lurking/ know that.. despite feeling messed up a bit in my own head about which direction i want/have to take in my own life, and despite many struggles as deep and traumatic as many have experienced here, i still hold jws as a group in the highest esteem.

i can remember what it was like to try and do the "right" thing and follow the way of the truth, it was bloody hard, and i fell down many times.

i always used to try and pick myself up dust myself down and start over again, sometimes with success for longer periods than others.

If you are thinking of going back I want you to think about what your life is really going to be like.

I have a friend who recently left the JW?s for the 3 rd time because he is gay and could not live a straight life. He wanted to be like everyone else and settle down with someone ? but as a JW that someone would have to be female. He has tried so many times to fight against what he is and has tried to be straight but just could not live the lie! Also what about the poor person he could have married ? to find out your husband was really gay would be devastating. I feel just as strongly if it were finding out your wife was gay. It is all about living a lie.

I remember asking the elders about this subject and they said that Jehovah would help the person not be gay anymore if the prayed hard enough. How cruel is that?

I agree that there are many nice people within the JW?s but they will not risk going against the elders etc for fear of them being shunned. As I mentioned on another thread, I was very much discouraged from associating with some of the people in my congregation who were not deemed spiritual enough. The class system is still very much in operation within the network.

I felt when I was an active JW that I had a great life ? friends up and down the country that I could visit, a good network of support or so I thought. I was a regular pioneer when I began to wonder what I was doing with my life. Not one of these so-called friends called when I was disfellowshiped to ask if they could help me back! There is something very wrong when there are as many people leaving, as there are becoming JW?s.

i am not a jw but my mother-in-law is.

since the day her son proposed to me (he is not a jw) she has made my life a living hell.

we have been married for just over a year and have a beautiful baby girl.

Hi Nancy,

Sorry to hear you are getting such a hard time. How did she come to live with you in the first place?

You do not say what part of the world you are from but instinct tells me that she perhaps comes from a culture pre JW where the daughter in law is expected to have the mother in law live with them and the daughter in law is expected to care for her in her old age.

If this is the case then she will see no good in what you do, couple that with the JW dilemma and she will feel that you have stolen her son and that you are the reason that she will not have ?good standing? in the class system operated by JW?s. Oh yes, the class system is alive and well within the kingdom halls! Points for the class system includes elders in the family, pioneers, special pioneers, and how many kids raised and stayed a JW, etc etc!

I know because I had first hand experience of who I was allowed to associate with even within the same congregation. My parents did not want me mixing with fellow JW?s who did not come from very spiritual families!

All I can say is try to get out of there as soon as you can.

HELP! God get me out of here!

have you ever been stuck in an embarrassing situation where you think you`d rather die than endure another 30 seconds...?

what is it with some of these witnesses!okay so they are no part of the world,fine,but which world,which planet are they on..!!!

(ok, let`s start at the beginning).i was a witness for many years, so while i`m out shopping or working, i quiet often bump into pioneers and other witnesses who are out on their ministry.some-times we just say "hello" and go in our seperate way`s; but often we will stop and chat for ten minutes or so.some-times i have to-be almost rude to get away from some,especially the pioneer`s who set the hours meter running as soon as we start talking.i am never rude to the witnesses, i was a pioneer myself and always try to put myself in other peoples shoes[ the golden rule ].sometimes i meet the odd elder while in the town centre.

Remember Dateline??

i'm trying to get some comments that active jehovah's witnesses may have heard after dateline aired back on may 28, 2002.

do you remember any comments made about the dateline program either made from the platform at the kingdom hall, or in private conversations with other jw's?

how were the people who where on dateline viewed in your area, especially at the kingdom hall or by other jws?

As you know we in UK had the BBC programme re child abuse within the JW's. I knew of the family that was featured, but that is the tip of the iceberg I think.

I know of several other (now) ex jws who were abused and know that their abusers were able to take part in FS ect. When I think of the potential harm I was in as a child - I feel sick to my stomach. Although I was never harmed physically by any of them - one of them used to sing to me at the KH a song he made up specially for me - yuk!!

The society do hold a database of these animals and still do nothing to protect these inocent children!!

They must be called to account for their actions!!!!!!

food at the assembly

remember a few years ago 97 and down even more there use to be food at the assemblys(not the big rent-astadium ones).

i remember back then probally being 5,6,7,8 they use to give out food like hots hamburgers chips and so.

any idea why there isnt anymore?

My goodness, this takes me back! I used to be one of the volunteers to go through to Edinburgh at my own expence I may add - as a poor pioneer - and paint the stands that would be used to sell the food from!!

During the assembly time I would arrive early each day to help prepare the food to be cooked that day!!

What did they do with all that equipment?

PS - Edinburgh was where our District Assemblies took place
